Brant Branta bernicla This attractive oceanic goose is annual in the Pribilof Islands. All Pribilof records pertain to the subspecies Branta berniclua nigricans, or “Black Brant”. The white-bellied Canadian arctic breeding subspecies Branta bernicula hrota has not yet been found in the Pribilofs but has occurred nearby and should be looked for. On an average year between three and six Brant will pass by in spring. Only occasionally seen in late June and July, Brant once again begin to appear on the island’s Rocky shores and lakes in mid August. The Rock shores around Northeast neck, Southwest point, the town cove, Antone and Polovina Lake are all good places to search for migrant Brant. Abundance Rare Season Sp/F Status Migrant |
